چکیده
The 1991 National Health Provider Inventory (NHPI) was a survey of nursing homes, board and care homes, hospices, and home health agencies. This report deals primarily with nursing homes and board and care homes but includes some discussion of home health care. The NHPI was previously known as he Inventory of Long-Term Care Places (ETCP), which was conducted in 1986 (1). Before that, it was known as the National Master Facility Inventory (NMFI), which was conducted eight times--the first in 1967 (2) and the last in 1982 (3). These inventories included primarily nursing homes and residential care homes (now called board and care homes). The current name (National Health Provider Inventory) reflects an expansion to include home health agenciesand hospices, which provide health services to individuals in their place of residence. Information concerning survey mailout procedures, the classifkation system that was used, and definitions of terms are given in the Technical notes.
